These words from Bari’s mayor, Antonio De Caro, in commenting on the project, are the most direct summary of the shared perception of a project which, behind its simplicity and speed of use, conceals a complex and innovative structure.

The point of access
The project established the web portal egov.ba.it, through which users of the 28 municipalities in the "Greater District of Metropoli Terra di Bari" can access numerous services on line while avoiding having to physically go to public offices for self-certifications, registry and property use certificates, tax payments, declarations, registry searches, the opening of public establishments, environmental authorisations, refunds and a range of permits. In addition, all municipalities in the Greater District already have the Regional IT system available integrated with the information managed by the Regional Authority of Puglia regarding the P.P.T.R. (Regional Landscape Plan), the Landscape Areas, the P.A.I. (Hydrogeological Structure Plan) and the on line map services "SIT Puglia" and "Autorità di Bacino Puglia".

The system covers many areas, is designed to be gradually enhanced with new services and uses a cloud infrastructure (data centre) located on a primary site and a secondary site, to guarantee security and system reliability 24 hours a day.

Simple and direct. Registration and use
To use the platform, residents and businesses simply register on the regional portal www.idp.regione.puglia.it, which provides for unified user management, and access their account on egov.ba.it to take advantage of the services offered by their own municipality.

The protagonists
In addition to the municipality of Bari, the following cities are participating in the project: Adelfia, Binetto, Bitetto, Bitonto, Bitritto, Capurso, Casamassima, Cassano delle Murge, Cellamare, Conversano, Gioia del Colle, Giovinazzo, Modugno, Mola di Bari, Molfetta, Noicattaro, Palo del Colle, Polignano a Mare, Rutigliano, Ruvo di Puglia, Sammichele di Bari, Sannicandro di Bari, Terlizzi, Toritto, Triggiano, Turi and Valenzano. The Bari Greater District project was carried out by a Temporary Consortium consisting of Exprivia S.p.A., Links Management & Technology S.p.A. and Telecom Italia S.p.A. It relied on regional funds from the ERDF OP 2007-2013 Axis I Line 1.5 Action 2 for innovation projects, and it is one of the ten projects presented by the "Greater Districts" into which the entire regional territory has been divided.
