Payments from mobile terminals have become reality, a composite model that comprises multiple paradigms: mobile remote payment, mobile commerce, mobile money transfer, mobile proximity payment.

Mobile remote payment
Includes services that enable goods or services to be paid for on a mobile telephone, even in remote mode. These services use the wireless network, whether it is GSM, UMTS or any other and are used from various interaction platforms: sending an SMS, navigating on Mobile sites optimized for mobile phones (for example, .mobi/.mobile.com) or Applications installed on the mobile telephone or SIM card (Sim Toolkit Application), making an IVR call (answering machine that guides the user through the procedure for activating the service) and sending USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data). The Mobile remote payment and Mobile proximity payment services include the Mobile Ticketing services (public transport and car parks).

Mobile commerce
Used not only to pay for a product/service over the mobile telephone but also to carry out the purchasing process activities (selection, comparison of prices and products, product configuration, etc.) with a model similar to that of eCommerce used on PCs.

Mobile money transfer
Includes services that allow money to be transferred from one person to another (for example, from one member of the family to another). It uses service applications (Xoom and PayPal) available on the mobile network for remote transfers.

Mobile proximity payment
Includes electronic "proximity" payments, in which the purchaser has to be close to the person selling the product/service purchased. In Mobile Proximity Payment, the mobile telephone emulates a credit card payment. In this case, the mobile network does not necessarily have to be used (although it can increase its interactivity), as short-range wireless communication technologies (such as NFC – Near Field Communication) are used. Mobile Proximity Payments also include those that are activated by 2D codes, such as QR-code and Data Matrix.
